Garnett, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Virginia who was residing in Washington, D.C., complaining of legislative bills, the tariff and auction sales tax, desertion of Mr. [John C.] Calhoun to Gen. [Andrew] Jackson and William Crawford, and Garnett's application for the fourth auditor's office and his opponent W. Lindley.
